FINAL

OKC(1-2) 95   –  104 (1-1)ATL

Key Performers:

A. Horford (ATL): 23 pts, 12 rebs, 3 asts
K. Durant (OKC): 22 pts, 12 rebs, 8 asts, 3 stls
[FULL BOX SCORE]

Despite Josh Smith staying in Atlanta due to a sprained ankle, the Hawks were able to defeat the Oklahoma City Thunder thanks to the strong play of Al Horford, Lou Williams, and Jeff Teague. This is the Hawks’ second straight win over the Thunder.

Reaction Grades: [assessed 0-10]

Al Horford: This is why Horford needs to get more touches on offense. Al had 23 points on 11-19 shooting, and improved on his rebounding performance from the first game, grabbing 12 boards this time around. He also had three assists and no turnovers. 9/10

Lou Williams: For the second game in a row, Lou didn’t do much early, but took over in the fourth with 14 points in the final quarter. His shooting efficiency could use a boost, but he’s getting to the line, which is something Atlanta couldn’t accomplish at all last season. 7/10

Zaza Pachulia: Zaza had six assists, which is hilarious. He was a little sloppy at times, but kept on the glass and even had a nice fadeaway jumper when the shot clock was running down on him in the 2nd quarter. (well, it wasn’t pretty, but it went in) 7/10

Jeff Teague: He only played 26 minutes, but was practically flawless in those 26. He has 16 points on 7-12 shooting, five assists, and three steals. He also completely posterized Kevin Durant, which you’ll probably be able to catch on Top 10 plays if you missed it. 9/10

Ivan Johnson: He had 10 points and four boards in 12 minutes, including a monster dunk. I was glad to see that LD let him play this game, but he shouldn’t be getting only 12 minutes. 8/10

Kyle Korver: Was absolutely terrible at everything. (again) Shot poorly, left K-Mart open several times, and even bricked two of his three free throws. Hopefully we will get to see the good Korver soon. 1/10

Devin Harris: He had a couple of moments, but he made some defensive mistakes late in the game. He finished the game over Teague, which is an absolutely bewildering decision. 5/10

Anthony Morrow: Finally got his first run of the season. He made both of his shots, including a three, and actually played good defense on Durant, forcing a couple of turnovers off of OKC’s star. He should see more PT if Korver continues to play like Mike Bibby. 7/10

DeShawn Stevenson: He made the dagger three, but also forced several shots. One particular possession comes to mind where he shot a contested three, the Hawks got the offensive rebound, and then he shot another contested three with 20 seconds left on the shot clock. He did harass Kevin Durant some, even though Durant is probably one of the toughest matchups for DeShawn. (a six inch height difference while guarding a shooter is a huge mismatch) 5/10

Anthony Tolliver: I’m not sure why he started in lieu of Zaza or Ivan, because he played pretty terrible. He left Ibaka open a few times, but his two threes and some defense keep him from being grouped with Korver again. 3/10

Larry Drew: The Hawks won, but I question why he left Teague off of the floor at the end of the fourth quarter. There was no reason for Harris to be playing over him at that time. He did finally give Ivan and Morrow some playing time, in which they proved more effective than Tolliver and Korver. Fair or not, I’m giving LD and incomplete until I see how he reacts from this game, in terms of Ivan’s and Anthony’s PT. INC/10

The opposition: Russell Westbrook played awful, and even Kevin Durant was stricken with the turnover-bug despite his strong overall performance. Kevin Martin and Serge Ibaka played well offensively, but their defensive short-comings still showed. Nick Collision only played 18 minutes, which is something I still don’t understand. 5/10
